Ventilaton, heating & cooling of laboratories

All laboratories in B3, B4 and B5 is equipped with ventilation that is constructed and regulated so that a comfortable climate (temperature and fresh air) can be kept in the special rooms/cabins. In order to save energy (=use less money/CO2) ventilation regulation is constantly beeing improved. Since we can't test everything everytime a single parameter in the regulation is changed its very important that you report all unexpected behaviour of ventilation, heating/cooling. That could be high/low temperature and/or noise from ventilation.

In general you can't expect that air stays fresh and temperature constant if you use a lot of equipment and persons in small cabins since ventilation is NOT designed for this - designcriteria is ~100Watt power from equipment and 1-2 person ind cabins and ~300Watt and 1-2 persons in larger rooms.

If you wan't higher/lower temperature in specialrooms then contact akutek - if you wan't higher/lower temperature outside (groupsrooms, control-rooms, offices etc)  the special-rooms/cabins you'll need to contact building services (Jan Michael Rasmussen - 9940 9684) or if you can't reach him then VVS-department (9940 7547 or 9940 7158)

Ventilation B4-lab.area.

Ventilation in B4 lab.area gives about 1800m3 fresh air pr hour, and it's important for comfortable conditions (air temperature and quality) in our laboratories.

The ventilation system gives fresh air (obvioius !) , but also keep temperature in special rooms at a constant level independent of people/equipment present in these rooms. For correct function it's critical that the doors to special rooms are CLOSED.

If you for some reason need to have the ventilation stopped for a short time during critical measurements/experiments, you can turn it off from the switch in B4-corridor (just in front of B4-107). Ventilation is turned off in all laboratories, so don't keep it off except when really needed.. Normally it should not be necessary to turn off ventilation since noise level is below to threshold of human hearing, so if you experience higher level of noise from ventilation then please report it to akutek.

Ventilation noise in our special rooms is specified to be below hearing threshold (se SBxxxx for details) in worst case conditions (eg. cooling and heating on !)

For correct function of ventilation its important that filters to each special room is clean and replaced 1-2 times/year.

Ventilation in B5-lab.area

Ventilation in B5 is normally running in normal mode (temp. within +-0,5 degree of setpoint) from 8.00-16.00 on workingdays, and outside ventilation is running in a "zero-energy"-mode where only absolutely required energy is used.

This means that airflow is minimized and heating and cooling is turned off. Temperature is kept within a +- 4 degrees of setpoint. If you wan't normal operation of ventilation/heating of rooms outside official working hours you'll need to activate the switch ("extend ventilation") in the control-room for the special cabin/room.

This switch will turn ventilation into normal mode for a 3hour period. If you press the button later operation will be extended with 3 hours counted from the time you press the button..

If you for some reason need to have the ventilation stopped for a short time during critical measurements/experiments, you can turn off from the switch in B5-corridor. Ventilation is turned off in the whole B5-building - grouprooms, laboratories and basement, so don't keep it off except when really needed.. Normally it should not be necessary to turn off ventilation since noiselevel is close to threshold of human hearing, so if you experience higher level of noise from ventilation then please report it to akutek.
